Pick Session Buddy if you want a record of whole browsing sessions to restore after a crash or restart; pick OneTab if you want to collapse a crowded window into a list in one click. Both are free and keep data in the browser, and neither syncs between computers. For named tab sets you reopen daily by command, SuperCommands is a free alternative.

Numbers are from each Chrome Web Store listing as of October 2026.

## Session Buddy vs OneTab compared

| | Session Buddy | OneTab | SuperCommands |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Best at | Restoring past sessions | Clearing a window | Reopening named sets |
| Users | About 1 million | About 2 million | Open source |
| Rating | 3.3 | 3.8 | n/a |
| Sync | No | No | Optional Drive backup |
| Price | Free | Free | Free, open source |

## When is Session Buddy the better choice?

When you want to get back a whole window, or several, after closing or crashing Chrome.

- Fact: version 4.1.2, updated April 28, 2026, about 1 million users; data stays local.
- Limit: a 3.3 rating from 25,100 ratings, and its listing confirms there is no cross-device sync yet.
- Skip it if you only need a few fixed sets of tabs rather than a session history.

## When is OneTab the better choice?

When the goal is fewer open tabs and less memory use, right now.

- Fact: version 2.24, updated October 11, 2026, about 2 million users ([listing](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/onetab/chphlpgkkbolifaimnlloiipkdnihall)).
- Limit: restoring a group removes it unless you lock it, and uninstalling deletes all stored tabs.
- Skip it if you want to reopen the same tab set again tomorrow without hunting for it.

## What if I reopen the same tabs every day?

Session histories and tab lists both make you find the set before you open it. SuperCommands opens a named set directly.

- Scenario: save your support dashboard tabs as `support`. Press `Alt + S`, type `c support`, press `Enter`: they all open. A hotkey like `Alt + 1` works too.
- Limit: no automatic session history or crash recovery. Details in the [links docs](/docs/links).

SuperCommands is free and open source. The local version is 100% free, forever.

## Which one should you pick?

- Pick Session Buddy to restore past sessions and windows.
- Pick OneTab to clear a crowded window into a free list.
- Pick SuperCommands to reopen the same named tab sets by command. See more options in [Session Buddy alternatives](/blogs/session-buddy-alternatives) and our [tab manager comparison](/blogs/best-tab-manager-extensions-chrome-edge-brave).

## FAQ

### Is Session Buddy still maintained?

Yes. Version 4.1.2 was released on April 28, 2026, and the listing carries a Featured badge.

### Does OneTab save my tabs if Chrome crashes?

Only tabs you already sent to OneTab. It does not record sessions in the background the way Session Buddy does.

### Can I use both?

Yes. Many people keep Session Buddy for crash recovery and OneTab for clearing windows; they do not conflict.

Session Buddy vs OneTab: Which to Use in 2026?

The best Workona alternative for a small, stable set of project pages is SuperCommands: it saves named tab sets locally, with no account, and opens them with a typed command. If you depend on Workona's automatic tab tracking or shared team spaces, stay. Workona has about 200,000 Chrome users and a 4.2 rating.

This comparison is written by the SuperCommands team. Workona details come from its site, help docs, pricing page and Chrome Web Store listing, checked in October 2026.

## Workona autosaves every tab; SuperCommands saves only what you choose

Workona gives each project a **space** that acts like a named window. Per its [tab manager docs](https://workona.com/help/tab-manager/), spaces "constantly autosave your work", hide when you switch, keep unlimited sessions and take a backup snapshot for each hour of active work.

| Tool | Saving tabs | Data lives | Team features | Browsers |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Workona | Autosaved, hourly snapshots | Workona's cloud, account needed | Shared spaces on Team | Chrome, Firefox, Edge |
| SuperCommands | Saved on purpose | Browser; optional Drive backup | None | Chrome, Edge, Brave |

- **Price:** Workona's [pricing page](https://workona.com/pricing/) says it "is free for everyone to use with upgraded plans available" (Pro, Team with 3+ users, Enterprise), but showed no prices in October 2026. SuperCommands is free and open source (Apache-2.0); the local version is 100% free, forever.
- **Privacy:** Workona's [listing](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/workona-spaces-tab-manager/ailcmbgekjpnablpdkmaaccecekgdhlh) says it collects web history; Workona cites SOC 2 Type II and AES-256 encryption.

Autosave suits a consultant switching between 4 clients all day: the 14 tabs left open for client A are there after lunch. It hurts when the stable part is small. If client A really needs 4 pages, a week of autosave can turn Monday's start into 25 tabs.

## How do I build a client space in SuperCommands?

Save the 4 pages that matter as one link collection, then add the note and to-do beside it.

1. Create a workspace with **+** under Workspaces in the sidebar.
2. Open the project board, shared drive folder, analytics report and brief. Press `Alt + S`, type `c link`, choose **Current Tabs** and save as `client A weekly`.
3. In Properties, add the text shortcut `clienta`.
4. Add a note ("Explain the drop in returning visitors") and a Friday to-do with a reminder, all tagged `#clienta`.

Now `c`, Space, `clienta` in the address bar opens the 4 tabs, and `#clienta` in `Alt + S` shows the set, note and to-do together. See the [Links docs](/docs/links).

> **Tip:** Keep research tabs in a second collection such as `client A research`, so the weekly set never drifts.

## What do you lose by leaving Workona?

Mostly automatic recall: SuperCommands only knows the tabs you saved.

- **No autosave:** a window closed by mistake comes back only through browser history (`Ctrl + Shift + T`).
- **No tab hiding or suspension:** Chrome's Memory Saver covers some of the memory side.
- **Backup, not sync:** Google Drive backup runs every 24 hours and keeps up to 15 versions; there is no sharing.
- **No Firefox or app integrations:** Chrome, Edge and Brave only, and apps open only as links.

Saved sets store addresses only, not logins or form data. Before leaving Workona, turn on backup under **Settings**, then **Drive & Backup**, and run both tools on one project for a week.

## What are the other Workona alternatives?

- **Microsoft Edge Workspaces:** free, built in, synced through Edge Sync; sharing was removed in 2026. See our [browser workspace manager guide](/blogs/best-browser-workspace-manager).
- **[Toby](https://www.gettoby.com/):** visual collections with team spaces; 60 free cards, then $6 per member monthly as of October 2026. See [our Toby alternative post](/blogs/supercommands-vs-toby-free-open-source-toby-alternative).
- **Chrome saved tab groups:** free, built in and synced. Read [Chrome tab groups vs saved sessions](/blogs/chrome-tab-groups-vs-saved-sessions) first.

## Which one should you pick?

- Pick **Workona** if your projects change hour to hour or your team shares resources in Team spaces.
- Pick **SuperCommands** if each project has a small, stable set of pages and you want its notes, to-dos and snippets beside them, without a third-party cloud.
- Pick **Edge Workspaces** if you work alone in Edge and want free sync.
- Pick **Chrome saved tab groups** if you only need one or two projects kept between sessions.

## FAQ

### Is Workona free?

Its pricing page says it is free for everyone, with Pro, Team and Enterprise upgrades. Pro adds unlimited spaces and 90-day session backups; prices were not shown in October 2026.

### Is there a free open-source alternative to Workona?

SuperCommands is free and open source under Apache-2.0 for Chrome, Edge and Brave. It saves tab sets on purpose rather than autosaving every tab.

### Does Workona store my browsing data?

Workona stores spaces in its cloud, and its Chrome Web Store privacy section lists web history as collected data.

### Can Edge Workspaces replace Workona?

For one person on Edge, often yes: each workspace keeps its tabs and syncs through Edge. Since 2026 it no longer supports sharing, and it only works in Edge.

Workona Alternative: SuperCommands vs Workona (2026)

The best command palette Chrome extension for jumping between open tabs, bookmarks and history is Vimium: free, open source, 600,000 users and updated in 2026. If you also want the palette to reopen saved tab sets, paste snippets and run page actions like full-page screenshots, SuperCommands fits better.

All user counts, ratings and update dates come from each Chrome Web Store listing, checked in October 2026.

## What does Chrome already do without an extension?

Chrome searches open tabs, bookmarks and history from the keyboard, but it cannot run actions or open a group of pages at once. Try it before installing anything.

- **Tab Search:** `Ctrl + Shift + A` (`Command + Shift + A` on Mac) finds any open tab across windows. Edge uses the same keys.
- **Address bar:** type `@tabs`, `@bookmarks` or `@history`, press Space, then type. These arrived in Chrome 108.
- **Brave:** the tab search button sits in the tab strip; with vertical tabs it becomes a magnifier in the tab panel.

## The best command palette extensions, compared

| Extension | Opens with | Users | Open source | Updated |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Vimium | `o`, `b`, `T` | 600K | Yes (MIT) | Mar 2026 |
| SuperCommands | `Alt + S` | n/a | Yes | On GitHub |
| Surfingkeys | `t`, `b`, `:` | 30K | Yes (MIT) | Oct 2026 |
| Chrome Palette | Shortcut you set | 366 | Yes (MIT) | Oct 2024 |

| Shortkeys | Icon or shortcut | 100K | Yes (MIT) | Mar 2026 |
| Raycast Companion | Raycast launcher | 70K | No | Jun 2026 |

### Vimium

**Best for:** finding the right tab among 40 open ones.

[Vimium](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/vimium/dbepggeogbaibhgnhhndojpepiihcmeb) opens its Vomnibar with `o` for URLs, bookmarks and history, `b` for bookmarks and `T` for open tabs. Rated 4.8 from about 4,600 reviews.

- Fact: [MIT on GitHub](https://github.com/philc/vimium); also on Edge and Firefox.
- Skip it if: you want it on the New Tab page or Web Store pages, which Google blocks for all extensions.
- Price: free.

### SuperCommands

**Best for:** reopening saved work and running page actions from one bar.

SuperCommands searches what you saved: links, multi-tab collections, notes, snippets, to-dos and AI chat agents. Press `Alt + S`, or type `c` and Space in the address bar.

- Scenario: save six hiring tabs with `c link`; `c hiring` reopens all six. `c` and Space in `Alt + S` lists commands like Download All Tables.
- Skip it if: you need live tab search or Vim link hints ([vs Vimium](/blogs/supercommands-vs-vimium-keyboard-first-browser-commands)).
- Price: free and open source; the local version is 100% free, forever.

### Surfingkeys

**Best for:** people who want to script their browser.

[Surfingkeys](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/surfingkeys/gfbliohnnapiefjpjlpjnehglfpaknnc) opens bookmarks and history with `t` and its command list with `:`, and adds full-page capture and a JavaScript config file. Rated 4.4.

- Fact: runs on Chromium, Firefox and Safari (some features missing on Safari).
- Skip it if: you want zero setup.
- Price: free, [MIT](https://github.com/brookhong/Surfingkeys).

### Chrome Palette

**Best for:** a VS Code-style list of every Chrome command.

[Chrome Palette](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/chrome-palette/hjkpneggcnclhpkddehdhlkeljclcnbo) puts commands like "new incognito window" and "clear browsing data" in one fuzzy list, sorted by use. Sub-commands narrow to tabs, bookmarks or history.

- Fact: moved to Manifest V3 in its 2.0 release.
- Skip it if: you need updates; the last one was October 17, 2024.
- Price: free, [MIT](https://github.com/dbuezas/chrome-palette).

### Command Palette (KS Lau)

**Best for:** quick switching across tabs, history and top sites.

[Command Palette](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/command-palette/kfjmdhmfemlhdgilboknjknpfnhnlodp) opens with `Ctrl + I`; type `!` for "bang" triggers that scope the search, and `Shift + Enter` opens a result in incognito.

- Fact: updated October 20, 2026, with 6 ratings.
- Skip it if: you want saved notes, page actions or published source code.
- Price: free.

### Shortkeys

**Best for:** custom shortcuts and per-site macros.

[Shortkeys](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/shortkeys-custom-keyboard/logpjaacgmcbpdkdchjiaagddngobkck) binds keys to 125+ actions, chains up to 10 into a macro and runs your own JavaScript. Its palette lists the shortcuts you made.

- Fact: updated March 19, 2026.
- Skip it if: you need reliability without testing; its 3.2 rating from 814 reviews is the lowest here.
- Price: free, MIT.

### Raycast Companion

**Best for:** people who already run Raycast on the desktop.

[Raycast Companion](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/raycast-companion/fgacdjnoljjfikkadhogeofgjoglooma) is not an in-browser palette. It passes the active tab to Raycast AI to summarize or answer questions. Rated 4.7.

- Fact: requires Raycast installed.
- Skip it if: you want a browser-only tool ([Raycast alternatives](/blogs/best-raycast-alternative-chrome-edge)).
- Price: Raycast AI starts with Pro at $10/month as of October 2026.

## How do I set Ctrl+K or Cmd+K for a command palette?

Most extensions let you pick the keys in Chrome's shortcut page.

1. Open `chrome://extensions/shortcuts` (`edge://` or `brave://` in those browsers).
2. Click the pencil next to the extension's command.
3. Press the keys you want and close the page.

> **Note:** On Windows and Linux, Chrome already uses `Ctrl + K` for search, and Edge uses it for address bar search. `Ctrl + Shift + K` or `Alt + K` avoids the clash.

## Which one should you pick?

- Pick **Vimium** if you only lose track of open tabs and want bookmarks and history in the same box.
- Pick **SuperCommands** if you reopen the same pages, paste the same text or export tables daily. See [how to search tabs, links and notes from one command bar](/blogs/how-to-search-tabs-links-and-notes-from-one-command-bar).
- Pick **Surfingkeys or Shortkeys** if you want to script your browser.
- Pick **Raycast Companion** if Raycast already runs your Mac or Windows desktop.

## FAQ

### Does Chrome have a built-in command palette?

Not a full one. Tab Search (`Ctrl + Shift + A`) and `@tabs`, `@bookmarks`, `@history` cover search, but running commands needs an extension.

### Is there an open-source command palette for Chrome?

Yes. Vimium, Surfingkeys, Chrome Palette and Shortkeys are MIT licensed, and SuperCommands is open source on GitHub.

### Is Omni still maintained?

No. Its Chrome Web Store listing has not changed since March 22, 2022, so treat it as unmaintained.

### Do command palette extensions work in Edge and Brave?

Yes. Both install from the Chrome Web Store, and Vimium also has an Edge Add-ons listing.

7 Best Command Palette Chrome Extensions (Oct 2026)

The right Data Miner alternative depends on why you are leaving. If you only exported HTML tables, SuperCommands does that free with no page meter; if you need pagination or card scraping, Instant Data Scraper or the free Web Scraper extension replaces most of Data Miner.

The usual complaint is the meter: Data Miner's free plan stops at 500 pages a month. This page is written by the SuperCommands team; competitor details come from official pages checked in October 2026.

## Why do people look for a Data Miner alternative?

Mostly price for features, not volume.

- **500-page free cap:** the Starter plan has recipes and next-page automation, but no crawls, custom JavaScript or Google Sheets, and is restricted on some domains.
- **Paid tiers:** Solo $19.99/month (still 500 pages), Small Business $49 (1,000), Business $99 (4,000), Business Plus $200 (9,000), per the [pricing page](https://dataminer.io/pricing).
- **Still capable:** [Data Miner](https://dataminer.io/) cites 50,000+ public recipes for 15,000+ sites and exports CSV and XLSX. Its [Chrome listing](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/data-miner-data-extraction/nndknepjnldbdbepjfgmncbggmopgden), now "Data Scraper - Easy Web Scraping," has about 300,000 users and 3.5 stars from 705 reviews, updated September 16, 2026.

## How do the alternatives compare?

SuperCommands covers single-page tables; the scrapers cover everything multi-page.

| Tool | Extracts | Multi-page | Price (Oct 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Data Miner | Any recipe fields | Next-page free; crawls paid | Free to 500 pages/mo |
| SuperCommands | HTML tables, active page | No | Free, open source |
| Instant Data Scraper | Auto-detected lists | Next and infinite scroll | Free |
| Web Scraper | Custom sitemaps | Yes | Free; Cloud from $50/mo |
| Table Capture | Tables to Sheets | Pro only | Free to 250 rows; Pro $12/yr |

### SuperCommands

**Best if:** your data sits in real HTML tables, such as a Wikipedia city list or a supplier price table every Monday.

- Scenario: on the page, press `Alt + S`, type **Download All Tables**, press `Enter`; every standard HTML table downloads as CSV ([docs](/docs/download-tables)).
- Limits: no `div`-based cards, canvas charts or virtualized grids; no pagination, recipes or scheduling; CSV only, no Google Sheets.
- Extras: also saves links, notes, snippets, screenshots and image downloads; Chrome, Edge and Brave.

### Instant Data Scraper

**Best if:** you need occasional one-off scrapes across pages.

[Instant Data Scraper](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/instant-data-scraper/ofaokhiedipichpaobibbnahnkdoiiah) auto-detects repeating data, follows "Next" and infinite scroll, and exports XLS, XLSX or CSV; about 1,000,000 users, 4.9 stars.

- Limit: no recipes, so unusual pages need manual selection. See [SuperCommands vs Instant Data Scraper](/blogs/supercommands-vs-instant-data-scraper).

### Web Scraper

**Best if:** you liked building custom recipes.

[Web Scraper](https://webscraper.io/) walks categories, pagination and detail pages from a sitemap of selectors, exporting CSV or XLSX.

- Limit: scheduling needs Cloud, from $50/month billed annually ([pricing](https://webscraper.io/pricing)).

### Table Capture

**Best if:** you mostly sent tables to Google Sheets.

[Table Capture](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/table-capture/iebpjdmgckacbodjpijphcplhebcmeop) copies tables and exports up to 250 rows to Sheets free.

- Limit: CSV, Excel, multi-page and PDF tables need Pro: $12/year Basic or $120/year Max ([plans](https://georgemike.com/tablecapture/plans/)).

## What does a switch look like in practice?

If you export one "Top 100" table monthly, SuperCommands takes one command; if it spans 10 pages, use a scraper.

1. Open the ranking page and press `Alt + S`.
2. Run **Download All Tables** and open the CSV from Downloads.
3. Save the page as a link with a Text Shortcut such as `ranking`, so next month you type `c`, Space, `ranking`, then repeat step 2.

> **Note:** Across 10 pages, SuperCommands needs 10 manual runs. Instant Data Scraper or Web Scraper does it in one pass.

Our guide to [extracting tables to CSV or Excel](/blogs/how-to-extract-tables-from-any-website-to-csv-or-excel) covers cleaning dates and long IDs, and the [best table scraper extensions](/blogs/best-table-downloader-extensions-chrome-edge-brave) list goes wider.

## Which one should you pick?

- Pick **SuperCommands** if your data is in HTML tables on one page; it is free and open source, and the local version is 100% free, forever.
- Pick **Instant Data Scraper** for occasional pagination or card scraping.
- Pick **Web Scraper** for structured multi-page scrapes you rerun.
- Stay on **Data Miner** if its public recipes cover your sites, or you need Google Sheets and crawls.

## FAQ

### Is Data Miner free?

Yes, up to 500 pages a month as of October 2026. Crawls, custom JavaScript, Google Sheets and some domains need a paid plan from $19.99/month.

### What is the best free alternative to Data Miner?

### Does SuperCommands use recipes like Data Miner?

Data Miner Alternative: SuperCommands vs Data Miner (2026)

The best Magical alternative is Text Blaze if you relied on autofill, and SuperCommands if you mostly used Magical for message templates. As of October 2026, [getmagical.com](https://www.getmagical.com/) sells AI agents for healthcare operations, and the extension's 300,000 users have had no update since April 4, 2026.

This comparison is written by the SuperCommands team. Magical details come from its website and [Chrome Web Store listing](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/magical-text-expander-aut/iibninhmiggehlcdolcilmhacighjamp), checked in October 2026.

## Magical now sells healthcare AI agents

Magical was a popular free text expander for recruiters, sales reps and support agents, with one-click autofill such as copying a LinkedIn candidate into a spreadsheet. The extension still works, but the company has moved on.

- **New focus:** the homepage describes "specialized AI agents that execute real operational work across healthcare systems."
- **No individual pricing:** `/pricing` shows "Book a demo" and "Contact Sales" for the healthcare product.
- **Stale listing:** version 3.119.1, updated April 4, 2026, rated 3.1 from 3.5K ratings.

> **Note:** We found no official shutdown notice. But a tool you type into all day should have an active roadmap.

## Magical alternatives compared

### Text Blaze

**Best for:** Magical users who relied on autofill.

[Text Blaze](https://blaze.today/) has 800,000 users and a 4.8 rating. Snippets can show forms, read data from the current site and use Autopilot to press `Tab` and other keys.

- Scenario: one snippet fills name, email and company fields in a row by pressing `Tab` between them.
- Skip it if: you want one-tap transfers; you build each snippet first.
- Price: free to 20 active snippets; [Pro $2.99/month, Business $6.99/user/month](https://blaze.today/plans/), billed yearly.

### SuperCommands

**Best for:** free message templates plus saved tabs, links and notes.

[SuperCommands](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/supercommands/ebofbaomnlpjgnponhalmmihcgakodpj) Text Expanders replace what you type with saved rich text in any field, in Chrome, Edge and Brave.

- Scenario: on a candidate's LinkedIn profile, type `c/intro` and the outreach message appears with `{name}` filled in; `c hiring` opens the Hiring workspace.
- Skip it if: you need form autofill or data moved between apps.
- Price: free and [open source](https://github.com/supercommands); the local version is 100% free, forever. See the [Text Expanders docs](/docs/text-expanders).

### Briskine

**Best for:** email-heavy users who want the simplest swap.

[Briskine](https://www.briskine.com/pricing/) inserts a template when you type its shortcut and press `Tab`, with variables like the recipient's first name.

- Fact: works on Gmail, Outlook.com and LinkedIn, and also runs in Firefox and Safari.
- Skip it if: you need more than 30 templates for free.
- Price: free to 30 templates; paid from $7 per person per month.

### TextExpander

**Best for:** teams that need managed snippets on desktop and mobile.

[TextExpander](https://textexpander.com/pricing) adds fill-ins and popup menus and runs beyond Chrome.

- Fact: the free plan allows only 5 active snippets.
- Skip it if: you are one person on a budget.
- Price: Pro $60 per user per year. See our [TextExpander comparison](/blogs/supercommands-text-expanders-vs-textexpander).

## How do I move my templates off Magical?

Copy everything out while the extension still works.

1. **Copy every template** you use into a document.
2. **Split** plain messages from anything that relied on autofill.
3. **Recreate plain messages** as SuperCommands Text Expanders (Create, then Text Expander) or Briskine templates, turning placeholders into `{name}`-style variables.
4. **Rebuild autofill** in Text Blaze with forms and Autopilot, and test on the real CRM or ATS fields.
5. **Remove Magical.** Its listing declares access to personal information, web history and website content.

## Which one should you pick?

- Pick **Text Blaze** if one-click autofill into CRMs and spreadsheets was the point; budget for Pro.
- Pick **SuperCommands** if you mostly sent messages and also want saved tab sets, notes and AI chat shortcuts.
- Pick **Briskine** if you live in Gmail, Outlook.com or LinkedIn and want Firefox or Safari too.
- Pick **TextExpander** if your team needs shared snippets on desktop and mobile. More options: [best text expander extensions](/blogs/best-text-expander-extensions-chrome-edge-brave).

Magical's website no longer lists plans or prices for individuals as of October 2026. The extension is still on the Chrome Web Store without pricing details.

### Is Magical shutting down?

We found no official notice. The company now markets healthcare AI agents, and the extension's last update was April 4, 2026.

### What is the best free alternative to Magical?

For templates, SuperCommands is free and open source, and Briskine's free plan allows 30 templates. Text Blaze is closest for autofill but its free plan caps you at 20 active snippets.

### Does any alternative autofill forms like Magical?

Text Blaze comes closest, with forms, website data in snippets and Autopilot key presses. SuperCommands, Briskine and TextExpander insert text but do not autofill.

Magical now sells healthcare AI agents. Compare the best Magical alternative for templates and autofill: Text Blaze, SuperCommands, Briskine, TextExpander.
