Assign a short Text Shortcut to a saved item and open it by typing the trigger through cmdOS.

Open an item with a short word

A Command Shortcut lets you open a saved item by typing a short word. In cmdOS, this is called a Text Shortcut.

What to type

Use simple letters and numbers, like work, notes, client2, or roadmap. Do not use spaces or symbols.

Where to use it

In Home Screen Search or Webpage Search, type c and the shortcut word. Example: c notes.

Example: assign notes to a note called Notes Test Page. Then type c notes to open that note quickly.

Use the shared Properties controls on the saved item that should open when the trigger is typed.

1Open the saved item

Open the note, link, todo, text expander, collection, Chat Agent, AI Prompt, command, or other supported item.

2Open Properties

Choose Assign a Text Shortcut from the item’s properties toolbar or supported context menu.

3Enter the trigger

Type a short letters-and-numbers value such as work, client2, or notes.

4Save

Choose Save and confirm that the trigger is displayed for the item.

5Use it

In cmdOS search type c work, or activate cmdOS in the browser address bar and type work.

For a new object that has not been saved yet, cmdOS can keep the pending Text Shortcut and attach it after the object receives its saved ID.

Update the access word without changing the saved object’s content.

Change

Open Assign a Text Shortcut, replace the current trigger, and save the new value.

Clear

Choose Clear Text Shortcut to remove the typed access route while keeping the saved item.

Remember the omnibox difference

Home Screen and Webpage Search use c trigger. The browser address bar uses c, Space to activate cmdOS, followed by trigger.

Prefixes

Enabled category and action prefixes are reserved for their configured cmdOS behavior and should not be used as personal Text Shortcuts.
